Internship Program

Tutorial for Analytical Transmission Electron Microscopy on Earth Materials

Kiyoshi Fujino and Hiroaki Ohfuji
Geodynamics Research Center, Ehime University

1 December, 2010 - 3 December, 2010
(The tutorial is basically scheduled only during the afternoon on these days. However, the detailed schedule may change depending on the participants)
Ehime University

This is a practical internship program focused on the structure and chemical analyses of Earth materials by analytical transmission electron microscopy (ATEM). It is particularly suitable to Ph.D. students, Post-Docs, and scientists who are interested in but not yet familiar with the electron diffraction technique, micro-structural observation, and nanometer-scaled chemical analysis of natural and synthetic materials by ATEM. Anyone who would like to become familiar with these techniques is welcome.

The internship consists of the following program:,

  • Lectures on fundamental crystallography, electron diffraction, and EDS analysis for thin foil specimens
  • Fundamental training course for ATEM operation

There is no limitation on the number of participants for the lectures. However, the number for the ATEM operation should be limited to 4-5 people at one time. In the case more than 4-5 people want to operate the ATEM, an additional training course may be considered. It is possible to participate only in the lectures
